I've just finished reading the Hope Chest by Karen Schwabach.
It was a really amazing book and I actually learned some things about the
time period in history that Ms. Karen used to create an unusual story.
here is a summary that i wrote considering the book.
In 1917, every girl is supposed to get married. Every girl is supposed to
use her Hope Chest money to buy a hope chest and everything that she will need
for the solemn, boring, unadventurous life she has before her. Chloe had a different idea.
Violet's sister Chloe knew that her life was ment to achieve something better than
people thought up for her. She could do anything she wanted. She could be amazing without
anyone holding her back from her dreams, she was sure of it. When Chloe got her
hope chest money, she bought a car. She even had the nerve to name it The Hope Chest.
Against her parents' will, she drove to New York City to become a public health nurse.
3 years later, Violet is so tired of her parents ridiculous rules and regulations. More importantly,
Violet misses Chloe more than words can say. Violet decides to run away from home.
To go to New York City and find Chloe, and thats exactly what she does.
Unfortuneatly, Chloe is not there. In fact, Chloe is in Tennessee, fighting for
women's rights and for laws to be passed concerning women and how much they
matter to the society. Fighting for their freedom.
Violet expects no less from Chloe. As Violet chases after her sister, she realizes
that this does matter. Freedom most certainly DOES matter!! Not just for her and Chloe,
but for every other girl that deseves better than what people expect.
