Dear StarWorld: Chapter 2
I let those children die. It's my fault. These words repeated themselves
over and over in my head. It's my fault.
CHAPTER 2
We had gone back into the little room to find the kids fast asleep and Tuck building a fire.
"Alright guys what is going on??" Rex had demanded. "I know something is not right when
you two start talking friendly to each other" he had said jokingly. "Very funny Rex," said
Yaja. "But everyone knows that I am nice to everyone," she had said with a snicker.
I couldnt take it at this point. Three children had died and my friends were just joking
around!! "STOP!!" I had yelled. "Just stop it!! Three kids are dead and all you two
can do is joke!! Nim and Maka are dead!!Sage is dead!!"
They had all stopped at that statement. Sage was dead. He had only been 8 years old. 8.
Too young to die. Especially the way that he did. Then, I broke down again, crying, head in
hands, feeling so responsible for this poor little boy. My friends had gathered around me
and drowned me in words of comfort and hugs. It didn't help. Lada woke up and saw me,
crouched on the ground with everyone surrounding me. She had walked straight up to me.
She pushed everyone else out of the way. She had leaned down to my face and whispered,
"Kyle, it's okay". No. It wasn't going to be okay. But I had said," Yes Lada it will be okay. You
are right about that." She had wrapped her tiny
arms around me and had given me a long hug. It had reminded me so much of Hally. I hugged her back.
I had stood up, tall and strong. I can't do that anymore. I am the protector.
We all layed down on the cold, hard ground with just each other as warmth.
I couldn't sleep though. I heard Yaja sigh and then she sat up. "Can't sleep either??" i asked.
"Who could", she said. Yep, that's my Yaja. Always seeing the brighter side of things.
After a few hours, I woke everyone up. "Time to go guys", I said. We packed up all of our
food and weapons. Then, we went one by one into the tiny tunnel. "Hey, Tuck, I forgot to
ask you- how did you know that there was a hole in the wall??" I asked.
"Well, Kyle, you see....this is the cave that me and Nico stayed in after the bombing."
he said. "Really??" that must be a painful memory for him.
I thought. Wait...we're in the cave that Tuck stayed in. After the war. "Guys!! Do you know
what this means?!?! It means we are close to the South Side!!" I said suddenly.
"He's right", said Nico. "Remember Tuck?? It's about 5 miles from here." he explained.
"Yeah." said Tuck. "Good!! I want to get out of here!! I think Ive sweated 10 pounds off!!"
said Yaja. She was right. It was burning up on this planet. We were getting closer to
the sun every moment.
We started trudging through the ice and snow again. only this time, there wasnt a blizzard.
In fact, it was unbearably hot. We couldn't risk any of the kids collapsing from heat and
exhaustion, so everyone was pretty much carrying everyone else. I carried Lada.
We walked all day, only stopping once to eat the last of the stale bread we had packed in our bags.
We got right back up and continued. By the time the sun was going down,
we could see the ruins of the old village. "Guys, we are so close!! Don't stop now!!"
I encouraged. "Kyle, even if we keep going how long will it take us to find a
place sleepable?? In fact, what if there IS no place to sleep??" Yaja complained
with a frown. "We'll find a place to sleep, don't worry."said Rex.
I shot Yaja a look that said: look, we need to encourage these kids, not worry them!! So stop it!!
We reached the old village a hour after the sun was fully down. It was freezing now.
that means that we must be getting closer to the sun?? or are we going the opposite way??
That was a mystery, but right then we needed to get everyone to a safe and warm place.
"Here we are guys," I had said. We all looked around. The damage and debris was major and
everywhere. There was a whole row of houses that had been bombed during the war.
"Alright, let's go find a good place to stay tonight guys," said Rex.
We all looked around the area. "Let's spread out," said Yaja. "Alright", I said, even though i was unsure.
Me, Yaja and 8 of the kids went down the row of houses that looked burned, and
Tuck, Rex, and the other kids went down the row next to it. After about a hour of searching,
Yaja and I stumbled upon a shack that was still standing. "Good," i had said.
"Because here comes a thunderstorm." We called Tuck over. "Alright, all we need to do
is make it bigger and we are good to go!!" he said, with pretend enthusiasm.
So, we gathered all the broken peices of wood and concrete we could find and then
we made the shack bigger. "Tomorrow we will start looking for equipment that can get us
out of here", I said. We all crawled into the shack and drifted off together into sleep.

Dear StarWorld: Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Once upon a time there was a planet. Existing in another galaxy than the milky way.
It had been discovered on May,13,4001. There were no organisms living on this strange planet.
Then. But thats not the point. The point is that this planet is where we needed to take refuge.
The point is that our planet was collapsing. Turning to dust before our eyes.
But did we know?? Well, let's just say that there were exactly 10,000 people left on
our planet earth before we noticed. Because the rest died. Right infront of us.
Which is why we had to leave. Obviously. We left. To that strange planet.
To StarWorld.
CHAPTER 1
Hey guys. Kyle here. I'm supposed tell you about this whole StarWorld thing.
Anyways.....
In 4000, things were different than all the years before.
You see, there was an enormous war. A world war. and it left
exactly 1/2 of the earth in condition to at least survive. The upper half.
The North as we called it. My family was one of the ones to survive.
Well, if you call hiding inside an icberg for 5 months with raw fish and
one bucket of fresh water surviving. But we lived. When the war was
finally over, we came out of our hiding spot to find at least 100 more families hiding
too. We weren't alone. So anyways, we built
houses and caught fish and other ocean animals living in the freezing Atlantic.
By the time our world started to collapse, I was 19 years old. Our families had always liked
to say that I would lead about 20 other kids into battle against the creatures that inhabited
our world. Or we would just repair our world.
Turns out, we were the only ones left. Us and no parents. No adults.
Just about 20 kids, ranging in age from 9-19, alone in the freezing cold,
watching our families being swallowed up by the snow and ice. But i'm not
going to harp so much on that.
See, this story isn't about how everyone died. It's about how we survived.
After we watched our families get drowned in earth, I decided to take
charge. I was the oldest one there anyways.
"Okay guys look, we are going to be Ok. I promise.
I WILL protect you. All of you" i said loudly. And just like that i was
drowned in an enormous group hug. I glanced at Yaja.
The most beautiful girl I had ever seen. I get to protect her too.
I thought to myself. "Okay let's see who all is here." I said.
They all lined up. "Brock, Summer, Hazel, Nico,
Ajad, Lada,...", I tapped each child on the head as I walked by.
All of them were under 13 except for Me, Yaja, Rex, and Tuck.
Who were 17,18, and 19. The rest were just kids. This is my family now.
I've got to help them. I couldn't help thinking about the
fact that these little helpless children had just witnessed the death of
everything they ever knew. Their parents. Their village. Their houses and friends.
I remembered my own friends and family. My mom, holding on to life by a thread from pneumonia.
My dad, who died in the war. My sister, Hally, who died in the iceberg from hypothermia.
My brother,Tab, who was actually here with me. And my older brother, Mikey.
He died in the war too. We were close brothers. I shut down for a week when the
war was over and found that Mikey had died.
I was jolted back into reality by a flash of lightning followed by a huge clap of thunder.
I've got to get these kids out of here. now. I pulled Rex, Tuck, and Yaja aside.
"Look guys, weve got to get out of here." I said. "How??" asked Rex.
"Not so sure", I said. I mean, really what could we do??
We were stranded on a collapsing planet with no way out. Unless....
"What if we went.....To the South Side", I said. "Are you crazy??" Yaja said.
"Yaja, that's where the huge hole in the earth is!! We could get out of here!!" I said.
"He's right", said Tuck. "We have to get to the Bala Galaxy. And we have
to get to StarWorld. That's the only way. To get out."
"And we need to go now." I said looking up into the sky. It was getting dark.
Storm clouds were rising and lighting was striking one mile away. "All right", said Yaja.
"To the south side."
We gathered all the kids up. "Alright guys, we are going to the South Side." I told
all the kids. "The south side?? There's a big hole there!!" said Lada said. She was the
very youngest out of all of us and her voice had a fearful tone in it,
"It's okay Lada. We wont go near the hole. I promise." I wrapped the little
girl in an protective hug."We will at least sleep there and gather supplies from the ashes" said
Yaja. "We will be safer there than here." added Rex. How weird that sounded. That the South Side
would be safer than the place where we live. It was also sort of a lie.
The remote possibility that we could manage the journey was already enough without
the fact that there might not be anything to salvage there.
But if it was our only chance, then I was willing to go for it. I looked down at little
Lada in my arms. I needed to protect these innocent people. I couldn't believe that all those
stories about me leading all the kids into safety were true. But it was more than that.
It was reality. Wow. I am the hero. I really am. And these kids really needed me to save them.
And that is what I was going to do.
We gathered all the food from the houses, stuffed it into 7 big bags, got our weapons,
(swords, spears, that kind of thing), and off we went. In one line.
Trudging through the icy terrain. Us older ones helped carry the kids who almost
broke down because of exhaustion. I mean, think about this: We have exactly 1/2
of the world to live in. But not even 1/2!! Because of all the monsters and creatures
surrounding us. We built our little village stretching about 2 miles long and 3 miles wide and
these little kids didn't go out. At all. Which ment not very much exercise for the younger ones,
so as you can imagine, they were not at all used to this kind of workout.
The older kids had to help get the food, so we were trained to handle the coldness and\
we were in good shape. After about an hour, it was too dark to see. I had no idea where
we were at all. "Tuck, where are we??" I asked. "I honestly dont know" he said.
"Wherever we are, these kids need a break. And some food too." said Yaja.
I thought for a moment, considering our options. Wait, what
options?? i asked myself. "Alright. We can stop here for like 20 minuets." I said.
We stopped all the kids, sat down on the snowy ground, and began to eat. We
looked all around us. Taking in our surroundings. All of us, even little Lada
trying to figure out where exactly we were. Our eyes wondered around the landscape.
No one spoke. Everyone was worried. Suddenly, I heard a scream. It sounded like
a person screaming only pitched higher. Except that it came from.....well, everywhere.
No, no, no NOT good!!
"Umm Kyle?? We have another problem I think." said Rex, staring up at the
clouded sky. I looked up too. We all did. "Go, now. To that cave" I whispered shakily
to Yaja and indicated the dark opening of the cave with my finger.
"Take them too. Slowly." I said. And in a flash, there we were. Me, Tuck, and Rex.
All by ourselves. Alone. Nothing new really.
The creature had a long, furry tail. It's eyes were a golden yellow. It's body was scaly and
a neon green. We slowly drew our swords. Then all at once, Tuck screamed, I fell on the ground,
and the creature was gone. "Whaaaat just happened?!?" said Rex. "I don't know", I said.
"I know", said Tuck. Me and Rex rushed to our feet and looked intently at Tuck for an
explanation. "That was a Horra. They aren't scared of much of anything....except the
scream of a Brahg. I learned how to imitate it when I was little. My dad taught it to me."
I'm not sure, but i think i had seen a tiny tear drop from Tuck's eye. Tuck had lived with his
dad before the war. His mom had died, like many others, when the country had been bombed by
the enemy. Tuck had managed to hide in a cave with his brother, Nico, after the bombing until
the war was over. His dad had been drafted into the army, however, before the country had been
bombed. Nico and Tuck had been left alone. All alone. I felt so bad for them. Especially Tuck.
He had alot on his plate. I mean, he had to take care of his 12 year old brother all on his own.
We started walking towards the cave where Yaja and all the kids had gone.
"Thanks Tuck. You kinda....just saved my life", said Rex. "Ehhh not a big deal I guess" Tuck said.
e arrived at the cave about 5 minuets later. "Yaja??" I yelled. No answer.
We kept walking through the cave. " Tab??" I yelled. "Yaja??" Tuck and Rex joined
me, screaming out names. We reached the back of the cave. "They aren't here", said Rex in
a confused voice. "Wait," said Tuck. He turned to the right wall of the cave and felt around.
Finally, he pushed aside a bush and we found a hole in the wall. "Let's go", I said.
We all crawled into the tiny hole, one by one. We kept crawling, until we saw a light
gleaming in the near distance. "...and then, the little bear started to back away..."
we heard a voice say. We emerged into a little room. Nico, Tab, Brock, Summer,
Hazel, and Ajad sat on the floor. Yaja sat on a rock, and Lada sat in her lap.
When they saw us, they all screamed and ran into our arms. I smiled as I looked at
all of them. Then something occurred to me.
"Wait, where's Sage??" i said. "Ummm Kyle can I talk to you for a second??"
She put Lada on the ground beside the other kids and told them to go to sleep.
Me and Yaja crawled into the tiny cave while Tuck and Rex helped the kids go to
sleep. "Yaja, what happened??" I asked. "Kyle, on the way to the cave, we saw
another creature. It was flying. Before we could act, it swooped up Maka, Nim, and Sage.
The rest of us bolted into the cave and went as far back as we could." said Yaja in an
urgent tone. it's my fault. I should have gone with them and protected them.
Now they're gone. They're gone. They're gone and it's my fault.
I put my head in my hands, forgetting Yaja was there. "It's okay. You couldn't have
done anything. No one could have saved them, Kyle. I'm telling you."
She leaned in closer to my face. "I'm telling you Kyle". Then, Rex called us back into the room.
I let those children die. It's my fault. These words repeated themselves
over and over in my head. It's my fault.

bittersweet music. It leaves you with a longing feeling. Thats a very hard feeling to create
especially through music. Adam Young's voice is just perfect for that. His voice is
incredible and beautiful. Lonely Lullabies is one of those songs that makes me cry and
yet it's so very exciting!! Oh you guys, Owl City is genius.
